This training course covers Proxmox VE core technical skills useful for single server deployments. Participants will learn to identify the steps and components to successfully create and manage virtual machines (VMs) and Linux containers including networking, storage, security practices, and backup strategies useful for single server deployments.

Training content

The course provides a mix of theory and practical work, helping participants build competence and confidence in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting the Proxmox VE platform.

  1. Understanding the architecture of Proxmox VE with a focus on a single server deployment
  2. Installing and setting up Proxmox VE: system requirements, installation, updates, and network configuration
  3. Exploring the management interfaces (web GUI, CLI)
  4. Configuring and managing networks in Proxmox VE: Bridging and bonding network interfaces, VLANs, software-defined networking
  5. Storage management: Storage options in Proxmox VE with a focus on single server deployments
  6. Virtual guest management: Creating, managing, and understanding the various options and possibilities for VMs and Linux OS containers (LXC)
  7. Migration to Proxmox VE from other hypervisors (V2V) and bare-metal machines (P2V) and recommended post-migration steps
  8. Backup and restore strategies: Backing up guests with the out-of-the-box backup functionality, exploring the integration with the Proxmox Backup Server, retention management, and restore possibilities
  9. Authentication and Permissions: Users, groups, authentication realms, and permission schemes
  10. Integrated firewall
  11. Troubleshooting common issues

The course objective is to equip IT professionals with a solid understanding of deploying, managing, and optimizing virtual environments using Proxmox VE for single server deployments.

At the end of this course, participants will possess a comprehensive understanding of the topics covered, including the appropriate use of VMs and LXC containers. They will gain insight into the various storage options for a single node setup.

Participants will be able to set up and configure the integrated firewall, plan a backup and restore strategy, and create user accounts with dedicated permissions.

With an understanding of the underlying technologies, participants will be able to perform basic troubleshooting. The course also covers the available options for migrating existing workloads to Proxmox VE and strategies for optimizing guests within the virtual environment.

This training course is recommended for and aimed at IT professionals, system engineers, server administrators, and Proxmox partners who need to know how to deploy the Proxmox VE solution, or are responsible for managing virtualized data center environments.

This two-day training is organised on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th of October 2026 from 9 to 17h. Lunch, coffee/tea and refreshments are included.

Price

The price is €1490 (excluding 21% VAT) for the two-day training. After successfully completing this training, you can attend "Proxmox VE Clustering and Shared Storage" training (28th and 29th of October). If you register for both 2-day training courses, the price is only €2760 (excluding 21% VAT).
