Digital Twins Masterclass (Bruges, 25 March)
Digital Twins Masterclass (Bruges, 25 March)
WCM, UGent, and Howest have launched a masterclass series as part of the Interreg project Offshore For Sure. This series addresses key topics in asset management, with a focus on the offshore wind sector, but we welcome interested participants from any industry sector.
This session focuses on Digital Twins. See you on the 25th of March 2026 for an overview of how Digital Twins are changing how organizations manage physical assets and processes.

How are digital twins used in industry?
Why this Masterclass on Digital Twins:
Are you looking to turn complex data into better decisions? Digital Twins are changing how organizations manage physical assets and processes. By creating a virtual model of a physical system, you can predict needs, lower costs, and improve performance before problems happen.
We invite you to Howest University of Applied Sciences in Bruges for an in-depth look at this technology. This event is designed for engineers, managers, and innovators across all sectors who want to see how Digital Twins work in practice. While we will look at examples from the energy and offshore industries, the lessons apply to any field using data-driven modeling.
What to expect: This masterclass brings together experts to share practical lessons on the digital journey. You will learn about the move from a "Digital Shadow" to a fully functional Digital Twin and how to use real-time data to solve modern engineering challenges.
Programme Highlights:
- Foundations of Digital Twins: Our thought leader Charlotte Larmuseau (Howest) provides a clear look at what these models are and why they are essential for today’s industry.
- From Data to Value: Jeremy Smith (Tocardo) explains how to use SCADA data to validate and improve digital models.
- Interactive Workshop: Sam Van de Walle (Howest) leads a session on Digital Shadows, the vital first step for any digital strategy.
- Case Studies: Real-world examples showing the application of this tech, including insights from the energy sector.
Full Programme:
12:30 – 13:00: Welcome, Sandwiches and Networking
13:00 – 13:15: Overview of the Offshore For Sure project (Dirk Hoet, University of Ghent)
13:15 - 14:15: Introduction to Digital Twins (Charlotte Larmuseau, Howest)
14:15 - 15:00 Use case 1: Use of SCADA data for Digital Twin validation and optimisation (Jeremy Smith, QED Naval/Tocardo)
15:00 - 15:15 Coffee/Tea and Refreshments
15:15 - 16:00 Possible Use case 2: "Digital Twins for Lifetime Assessment, illustrated by energy use cases" (?)
16:00 - 17:00 Workshop: Introduction to Digital Shadows (simulation software often used as first step towards a DT) (Sam Van de Walle, Howest)
17:00 End of this Masterclass on Digital Twins
